Dems Offer Bush $70 Billion More
for War Than He Requested
United for Peace and Justice reports that on top of the $102 billion requested by the Bush administration for a "supplemental" funding of the Iraq Occupation, the Democratic Party leadership is proposing to offer an unsolicited, additional $70 billion to cover the first quarter war funding for FY2009. This will be a whopping $172 billion!
This funding will cover the rest of this fiscal year, which runs to Sept. 30th, and go well into the next fiscal and calendar years. This means this would be the last supplemental appropriation voted on before the November elections. If passed, this funding will also carry over into the next presidency and the new Congress.
UFPJ says Bush might veto it because Bush thinks it's too expensive!
Hillary Threatens to "Obliterate" Iran
April 21. ABC News' Chris Cuomo asked Clinton what she would do if Iran attacked Israel with nuclear weapons.
"I want the Iranians to know that if I'm the president, we will attack Iran," Clinton said. "In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them."
Of course Hillary Clinton who was First Lady during the first genocide of Iraq ('90's Iraq sanctions) failed to mention that Iraq has no nuclear weapons, and has no nuclear weapons program. A simple oversight.
The fact that all the politicians rail against Iranian nukes even though Bush's own National Intelligence Estimate reported last fall that Iran abandoned their nuclear weapons program 5 years ago is simply breathtaking.
Israeli Government Attack on Hebron Orphanage/Schools Continues
The latest news received on April 22nd from the Christian Peacemaker Team is that 1,700 children including 240 orphans will be forced out of their orphanage and schools as Israeli military orders close more and more of the institutions. For instance troops welded shut the gates of a new two million dollar school that was to open in September. They destroyed bakeries. they looted supplies. They're now going after the sewing workshop.
The excuse is the orphanage and schools are controlled by Hamas. The charitable society that runs the orphanage was founded in 1962, decades before Hamas was created. Even if the charge is true what is to become of the children? What is to become of the orphans?
