Tanya Reinhart has Died

Israeli peace activist Tanya Reinhart died of a stroke at age 63. She was a world famous linguist who trained with Noam Chomsky. She wrote several books about Israeli oppression of Palestinians and when most were delighting in the Oslo "peace process" she was one of the first to use the word apartheid to describe Israeli relations with Palestinians.

She last spoke in a Harlem church in New York city with Columbia Professor Joseph Massad during "Israel Apartheid Week" in February. A short video clip of a part of her talk is on our video page.

80% of Gaza Strip Lives Off of Food Aid "Without It They're Liable to Starve" says WFP March 3. Conditions in the Gaza Strip have become so bad that a staggering 80% of the population now relies on food aid, This is the analysis in the Israeli paper Haaretz. It quotes a spokesperson from the World Food Program as saying "without it they are liable to starve" Refugees get food aid from UNRWA. Others desperate Palestinians get help from the World Food Program (WFP). The WFP offers only flour, salt, cooking oil, chickpeas and tehina. One family reported that the parents diet is hummous and pita every morning, noon and night. The children would be given some chicken or meat once a week. This malnutrition is entirely man-made. The Israelis have cut off all trade with Gaza and have banned Gazans from working in Israel. They and the U.S. have pressured European countries to cut off humanitarian aid. The despicable members of Congress continue to line up to kiss the butt of the Israeli-Apartheid lobby.
