You would think the Israeli government would be wild-eyed with happiness. Arch-enemy Hamas whose members are supposedly "sworn to the destruction of Israel" has proposed a ten year cease-fire!
Read all about it in the New York Times here. Ahmed Yousef, a key advisor to the Hamas leader Haniyeh says Hamas is willing to offer a "hudna" based on a "binding contract". He says "When Hamas gives its word to an international agreement, it does so in the name of God and will therefore keep its word"
The silence from Israeli and the West has been defeaning. Nothing about it in "Ha'aretz", "The Jerusalem Post" or "Yediot Aharonot".
If you read your Chomsky you see this is actually typical. Whenver a major peace proposal would be made by the PLO the Israeil response would be 1) to ignore it as long as possible, 2) to hysterically claim the proposal was insincere, and 3) to bomb a key PLO official

Israeli Cabinet Votes Bill for
Strongman Government
By one vote the Israeli Cabinet voted and sent to the full Knesset a bill to replace the parliamentary system it has now with a strong presidential system. It was done to bring in far rightist Avigdor Lieberman into the government. Lieberman wants every Arab out of Israel and the territories.
