"Shimon Peres, Out of Yale,
Off to the Hague and into Jail"

That was one of the slogans chanted by 30 or so demonstrators outside Yale's Woolsey Hall in a one hour protest of the appearance of Israel's Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres. Signs ranged from "The blood of Qana Demands Justice", "Peres, Don't Tell Us the Iraq War was a Success", to "Peres, Phoney Man of Peace", "Stop Staving Gaza" and "Israel Has Nuclear Weapons of Mass Destruction."

Qana is a town in Lebanon that was a scene of two massacres, one of over 100 people at a U.N. base in 1996 when Shimon Peres was Prime Minister. The other took place this year during Israel's war of aggression against Lebanon. Other reasons for the demonstration were the ongoing siege of Gaza and Israel's nuclear bomb program. Peres is widely regarded as the "father" of Israel's nuclear bomb program.

With a couple of electric bullhorns and enthusiastic voices the protest chants could be heard far down the block. Chants included: "Shimon Peres, Butcher of Qana", "Occupation is a Crime, from Iraq to Palestine", "No More Million Cluster Bombs Dropped upon Poor Lebanon", "Wake up Harvard, Wake up Yale, Shimon Peres Belongs in Jail", "Stop Starving Gaza", and "Tear Down the Apartheid Wall"

Various folks were interviewed by the AP, Channel 3, the New Haven Register and Fox the Yale Daily News, and the New Haven Advocate. In the report on Fox at 10, Jamillah Rasheed had a nice sound bite. Otherwise Fox coverage was disappointing. They did report that Peres expressed strong support for the Iraq war [please note].

Riots Target Palestinians and Christians in Hebron

In the continuting violent attacks against Palestinians and international observers in the city of Hebron in the West Bank a 19 year old Swedish human rights worker had her cheekbone crushed by a bottle by a settler in the Tel Rumeida section. Israeli troops stood by and did nothing. Internationals were taking pictures and a settler asked to have his picture taken over the fallen figure of the girl while holding his hand in the "thumbs up" sign. A group of some 100 settlers yelled anti-Christian as well as anti-Palestinian slogans. They repeatedly yelled, "We killed Christ and we'll kill you." [source: International Solidarity Movement]
