Another 1,000 Deaths Predicted

Horrible News Out of Lebanon

The Environmental Minister of Lebanon, Yacoub Sarraf, told the British newspaper The Independent that he expects the air pollution from Israeli attacks on a Lebanese power plant to kill more people than died during the Israel-Hizbullah war. After two separate attacks a fire in a huge fuel tank burned for 12 days and spread a cloud of fumes over 1/3 of Lebanon.

The Minister claimed the attack had to be deliberate as the Israelis did not hit the power station, only the fuel storage tank. The attack was so severe that it destroyed the concrete and earth burm that kept oil spills from going into the Mediterranean. [The plant is south of Beirut]. Some four million gallons of oil were released in the Mediterranean.

Sarraf said that the pollution cloud covered Beirut "Not only have we been breathing this for a month, but all the agricultural produce has been subjected to it." He said it will also enter the water supply for all of Lebanon.
